A tiny, slender basslet reaching about 2.4 inches with variable coloration ranging from mottled brown and tan to reddish hues, featuring a distinctive blunt head and cryptic body shape. Often displays subtle banding or blotching patterns that provide camouflage in its native reef environment.
Diet and feeding
Feed small live or frozen foods such as copepods, amphipods, mysis shrimp, and small fish larvae. This species thrives on a diet mimicking its natural planktonic and microfaunal prey and should be fed 2–3 times daily in small portions.
