Appearance
Gramma dejongi is a small, deep-bodied basslet with vibrant bicolor coloration: the anterior two-thirds is bright magenta-purple, while the posterior third is yellow or yellow-orange. Like other Gramma species, it has a slightly compressed body, pointed snout, and large mouth typical of planktivorous basslets.
Diet and feeding
Feed high-quality preparations of small meaty foods: frozen mysis shrimp, copepods, and specialized planktivore pellets. Accepts prepared foods readily. Feed 2–3 times daily in small amounts.
Difficulty and care for the Cuban Basslet
Moderate - Requires some experience due to specific dietary water or tank requirements. Best suited for intermediate aquarists.

Starvation if outcompeted for food, parasitic infections, bacterial infections in poor water quality
Origin and habitat
Endemic to the Caribbean, particularly around Cuba and the Greater Antilles. Found in deep reef habitats typically at depths of 150–300 feet.
