Northern Atlantic Ocean, from the North Sea and Scandinavia south to the Mediterranean and off the coasts of Maine and Canada.

• Minimum 55 gallon tank • Maintain temperature range 50–65°F with strong water flow • Requires stable salinity 1.024–1.026 and pH 8.0–8.3 • Filter feeder; depends on plankton-rich, nutrient-dense water; do not use aggressive protein skimmers • Naturally cold-water species; unsuitable for typical tropical reef aquaria without chiller
