Herbivorous grazers that consume algae and microorganisms from rocks and substrate. Supplement with blanched vegetables if algae is scarce.
Origin and habitat
Indo-Pacific and Atlantic tropical and temperate reefs, with various chiton species distributed globally in shallow to deep marine environments.

• Minimum 20 gallon tank • Nocturnal grazers requiring stable temperature 68–82°F and pH 8.1–8.3 • Feed on microalgae, diatoms, and organic biofilm via grazing on rockwork and sand • Maintain salinity 1.023–1.025 SG; sensitive to sudden parameter shifts • Provide plenty of live rock crevices for refuge and foraging
