Diet and feeding

Omnivorous scavengers that feed on detritus, biofilm, and algae. Supplement with quality sinking pellets or frozen foods (Mysis, spirulina) 2–3× weekly.

Origin and habitat

Temperate and subtropical waters worldwide, including Atlantic, Pacific, and Indo-Pacific regions; many species inhabit brackish and freshwater environments.

• Minimum 10 gallon tank with plenty of rock crevices and detritus for shelter • Temperature range 65–78°F; maintain stable conditions • Moderate current; amphipods thrive in systems with good water flow and organic matter • Feed on detritus, algae, and leftover food; supplement if needed in pristine tanks • Salinity 1.020–1.026 specific gravity required
