Appearance

Adults display vibrant blue, orange, and yellow coloration with distinctive markings. Juveniles are predominantly green with yellow and blue stripes or blotches. Parrotfish have characteristic fused tooth plates that form a beak-like mouth used for feeding on coral and rock.

Diet and feeding

Feed a varied diet of marine algae, herbivorous flake foods, nori sheets, and occasionally meaty fare such as mysis shrimp. Most parrotfish benefit from access to live rock and rubble for grazing and natural food supplementation.
