Quick facts
Appearance
The Spotfin Squirrelfish is a deep-bodied fish with bright red coloration on the dorsal surface and silvery-white undersides. It displays distinctive white spots or blotches on the lower body and fins, which give it its common name. Large eyes and prominent spines on the dorsal and anal fins are characteristic features of the species.
Diet and feeding
Feed a varied diet of meaty foods including frozen mysis shrimp, krill, and small fish pieces. In captivity, they readily accept frozen preparations and should be fed small portions multiple times daily, as they are opportunistic nocturnal hunters.
