Appearance
The Blackfin Squirrelfish has a robust, deep-bodied form with bright red coloration on the head and body, accented by dark red or black bands. The dorsal fin is characteristically spiny with bold red and white stripes, and the pectoral fins display dark tips. Large eyes are typical of nocturnal squirrelfishes.
Diet and feeding
Feed a varied carnivorous diet of frozen mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, and marine flake foods. Offer food in the evening when the fish is most active; aim for 1–2 daily feedings.
