Appearance

A stocky, deep-bodied soldierfish with predominantly silvery coloration and red-tinged fins. The dorsal fin is characteristically dark (hence "shadowfin"), and large eyes reflect its nocturnal habits.

Diet and feeding

Feed small meaty foods such as frozen copepods, mysis shrimp, and minced fish or squid. Soldierfish are nocturnal hunters and prefer feeding at dusk or after lights-out. Offer food 1-2 times daily in appropriate portions.
