Appearance

Bright orange-red body with purple-violet vertical bars on the head and anterior body. Elongated, streamlined frame with purple coloring most intense on the face and gills; sexually dimorphic with males displaying more vibrant coloration.

Diet and feeding

Naturally feeds on zooplankton and small crustaceans. In captivity, require frequent small meals of quality frozen mysis shrimp, copepods, amphipods, and enriched pellets designed for planktivorous fish.
