Appearance

Small, elongated basslet with reddish-orange coloration on the upper body and head, transitioning to lighter coloring on the belly. Distinguished by small scales and an overall sleek, streamlined shape typical of deepwater serranids.

Diet and feeding

Feeds on small crustaceans, copepods, and small fish in the wild. In captivity, offer frozen mysis shrimp, copepod-rich preparations, and quality meaty foods 2–3 times daily.
