Quick facts
Appearance
The Golden Angelfish is a small, laterally compressed pomacanthid with a striking bright golden-orange coloration covering most of the body and fins. Juveniles exhibit faint blue markings or lines on the head and gill covers that fade with age. The fish has a rounded, deep body profile typical of pygmy angelfish, with a small mouth adapted for feeding on sponges and tunicates.
Diet and feeding
Feed high-quality marine flake foods, high-quality marine pellets, nori sheets, and frozen preparations including spirulina-enriched foods. The Golden Angelfish has a documented preference for sponge-based foods in the wild and captivity; supplemental sponge-based preparations are beneficial. Feed 1–2 times daily in small amounts.
Difficulty and care for the Golden Angelfish
Moderate difficulty. The Golden Angelfish is hardy once acclimated but demands stable water conditions, a mature reef aquarium with established food sources, and careful monitoring in mixed reef systems where it may occasionally nip at soft corals or clam mantles.
