Appearance

The Black-Velvet Angelfish is a striking medium-sized angelfish with a predominantly deep black or very dark blue body coloration, giving it a velvety appearance. It has a rounded disc-shaped body typical of the genus Chaetodontoplus, and displays subtle pale or whitish markings on the gill covers and occasionally along dorsal and anal fin edges.
