Appearance
A small, slender fish with an elongated body and large pectoral fins. The body is tan to brown with intricate blue-green ocellated (eye-like) spots and reticulated patterns; males typically display brighter coloration and higher dorsal fin extension than females.
Diet and feeding
Synchiropus ocellatus feeds primarily on small benthic invertebrates including copepods, amphipods, and ostracods in the wild. In captivity, offer high-quality frozen foods such as mysis shrimp, copepods, and amphipods. Many specimens require live food supplements and may struggle with standard flake or pellet diets.
