Appearance

Small, stocky basslet with distinctive orange to reddish coloration on the back and upper body, fading to pale below. The body is robustly built with a moderately sized mouth typical of small groupers.

Diet and feeding

Feed small live or frozen foods including copepods, mysis shrimp, small crustaceans, and occasionally small fish pieces. Juveniles prefer copepod-sized prey; adults accept appropriately sized morsels.
