Appearance
Silvery body with distinctive dark vertical bands running across the flanks. Dorsal fin is spiny with alternating dark and light coloration; body is deep and compressed laterally with a somewhat oval shape.
Diet and feeding
Feeds on small crustaceans, zooplankton, and some algae in the wild. In captivity, offer a varied diet of quality marine flake foods, small frozen foods (Mysis shrimp, copepods), and occasional vegetable matter.
