Appearance
Holacanthus africanus is a moderately sized pomacanthid with a laterally compressed body and bright yellow-orange coloration. The fish displays dark vertical bars or stripes across its body, and the gill plates and fins typically show lighter yellow or cream-colored markings. The dorsal and anal fins are elongated and rounded.
Diet and feeding
In captivity, offer a varied diet of quality marine flakes, pellets, and frozen foods including mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped marine vegetation. Feed 2–3 times daily, adjusting portions based on appetite and tank bioload.
Difficulty and care for the Guinean Angelfish
Guinean Angelfish are challenging for most hobbyists due to their specific water-quality needs, tendency toward parasitic infection, and semi-aggressive territorial behavior. They require a well-established 125+ gallon tank with excellent filtration and regular water maintenance.
