Appearance
Guichenot's Hawkfish is a small, robust member of the Cirrhitidae family with a brick-red to reddish-orange body. It features distinctive barbels (cirri) above the eyes and on the operculum, and characteristic white or light spots or bands across its body. The fins are generally red-tinted, with the dorsal fin displaying prominent spines.
Diet and feeding
In captivity, feed small meaty foods including finely chopped shrimp, mysis shrimp, small fish pieces, and quality carnivore pellets. They are active hunters and will readily eat live copepods and small crustaceans.
Difficulty and care for the Guichenot's Hawkfish
Guichenot's Hawkfish is moderately challenging to keep. While hardy and adaptable to captivity, it requires careful tank selection due to its aggressive temperament toward smaller fish and invertebrates, and benefits from plenty of hiding places among live rock.
