Appearance
A small, vibrant blue fish with a stocky, elongated body. The coloration ranges from deep blue to cobalt with darker blue bands or bars along the body. It has a large head with a distinctly blunt snout and a relatively small mouth positioned anteriorly.
Diet and feeding
Feed small meaty foods including mysis shrimp, copepods, amphipods, and finely chopped marine flesh. In established reefs with natural prey populations, supplemental feeding may be reduced.
Difficulty and care for the Blue Assessor
Moderate difficulty. Blue Assessors require stable water conditions, adequate hiding places, and appropriate small meaty foods. They are shy and do best in established systems with live rock providing shelter and natural food sources.

Parasitic infections (ich), starvation if not adequately fed small prey, bacterial infections from poor water quality
Origin and habitat
Indo-Pacific region, ranging from the Philippines and Indonesia westward to the Great Barrier Reef and the Australian coastal waters. Found in rocky crevices and cave systems of coral reef environments.
