Appearance
The Black Angler is a small, dark-colored frogfish with a stocky, globular body and a prominent dorsal lure (illicium) modified into a bioluminescent or pale-tipped fishing rod. Its skin is typically black to dark brown with possible warty or bumpy texture.
Diet and feeding
Feeds exclusively on small fish and crustaceans in the wild. In captivity, require live or freshly frozen small foods such as mysis shrimp, small fish larvae, or copepods. May take specially-prepared frozen preparations but often need live prey to stimulate feeding.

Moderate - Requires some experience due to specific dietary water or tank requirements. Best suited for intermediate aquarists.

Indo-Pacific region, including the Red Sea, East Africa, Indonesia, Philippines, and extending to the Great Barrier Reef.
