Appearance

A small, elongated basslet with distinctive purple and orange/tan coloration featuring vertical stripes. The body is compressed laterally with a pointed snout and small mouth adapted for feeding on small prey.

Diet and feeding

Feed small frozen foods including mysis shrimp, copepods, and small crustaceans. In the wild, Barber Basslets consume small fish and crustaceans. Offer varied, appropriately-sized foods 2-3 times daily.
