Fish in the family Serranidae. Hard care. Reef Safe.
Quick facts
Appearance
Woods' Anthias is a small, elongated serranid with vibrant coloration: males display striking orange-red bodies with purple or magenta lateral bands and fin edges, while females are typically more subdued orange-yellow. The dorsal fin is tall and continuous, and the caudal fin is deeply forked.
Diet and feeding
Feed a varied diet of small frozen foods including mysis shrimp, copepods, and high-quality pellets designed for planktivorous fish. Target feeding 2–3 times daily in small amounts to match their natural feeding behavior.
Difficulty and care for the Woods' Anthias
Woods' Anthias requires stable water conditions, excellent filtration, and frequent small feedings. This deep-reef specialist is sensitive to poor water quality and demands subdued lighting and plenty of vertical space to school and forage naturally.
Common health issues
Starvation, parasitic infection, bacterial infections from poor water quality, acclimatization stress
Origin and habitat
Indo-Pacific region, found in deep coral reef habitats from the Philippines and Indonesia to the Great Barrier Reef and beyond, typically in depths of 40–200 feet.
