Compact body (around 20 cm) with a laterally compressed shape. Mainly brownish or olive green, displaying a series of narrow, irregular white bars along the sides and a broad, white bar on the operculum (gill cover). Distinctive black mouth and snout.
Diet and feeding
Zooplankton, marine invertebrates (e.g., shrimp, small crustaceans), and fish in the wild. In aquariums, zooplankton, brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, and various marine pellets are suitable diets for Labrus species.
