A medium-sized butterflyfish with a predominantly yellow body, distinctive black vertical band through the eye, and black dorsal and anal fin edges. The species exhibits the characteristic deep, laterally compressed body typical of Chaetodontidae.

Feed a varied diet of high-quality flake foods, small pellets, and frozen offerings including mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped meaty foods. Include occasional vegetable matter or spirulina-enriched foods.
