Appearance

A compact, elongated fish with vibrant purple-red coloration marked by bright yellow or orange vertical stripes and spots. Males are more intensely colored than females, with a characteristic blue-tinged face.

Diet and feeding

Feed live or frozen small crustaceans including mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and small copepods. They are primarily piscivorous in the wild but will accept appropriately-sized meaty foods in captivity.
