Appearance
Scats are disc-shaped fish with a flattened laterally compressed body and a distinctively spined dorsal fin. Juveniles display bold vertical black bands on a silver-yellow background; adults become greener with red-orange markings on the dorsal and anal fins.
Diet and feeding
Scats are opportunistic omnivores with a strong herbivorous component. Feed high-quality flaked or pellet foods, supplemented with vegetable matter such as spirulina, blanched spinach, or dedicated herbivore formulations 2–3 times daily.
Difficulty and care for the Scat
Moderate - Can adapt to brackish or marine conditions. Best suited for intermediate aquarists.

Origin and habitat
Indo-Pacific from East Africa and Red Sea to Australia, Indonesia, and the Philippines, including brackish estuaries and mangrove areas.

Brackish to marine species. Can adapt to various salinities. Very hardy. Will eat almost anything including plants.
