Appearance
The Raccoon Butterflyfish has a distinctive white to cream-colored body with diagonal black bands running from the dorsal fin toward the anal fin, resembling a raccoon's mask. It features a black band across the eye, a yellow dorsal fin, and a rounded body shape typical of butterflyfishes in the Chaetodontidae family.
Diet and feeding
Feed a varied diet of high-quality flaked foods, frozen mysis shrimp, and frozen brine shrimp. Supplement with vegetable matter such as spirulina-enriched foods. Feed 2-3 times daily in smaller portions to maintain water quality.
Difficulty and care for the Raccoon Butterflyfish
Moderately challenging for intermediate aquarists. The Raccoon Butterflyfish requires excellent water quality, a varied diet, and stable conditions. It can be aggressive toward other butterflyfish and similarly-shaped fish, and may nip at soft corals and clams.
