Appearance

The Ocellated Pipefish is a slender, elongated fish with a tubular snout characteristic of the pipefish family. It displays a tan or brownish body with distinctive dark spot markings (ocelli) running along its sides and fins. The body is segmented with bony plates, giving it an armor-like appearance typical of Syngnathidae.

Diet and feeding

Feeds on small crustaceans and zooplankton in the wild. In captivity, requires frequent offerings of live copepods, amphipods, or small prepared foods designed for pipefish. Multiple daily feedings are necessary to meet metabolic needs.
