Appearance
Highly compressed, disc-shaped body with a silvery coloration and subtle iridescent blue and green tones on the back. The distinctive steep profile and downturned mouth give the species its "lookdown" common name.
Diet and feeding
In captivity, feed small meaty foods including finely chopped fish, shrimp, and quality marine flakes. Feed 2–3 times daily in small portions; Lookdowns are specialized plankton feeders that may be reluctant to take larger food items and benefit from frequent small meals.
Difficulty and care for the Lookdown
Moderate - Requires very large tank. Best suited for intermediate aquarists with large FOWLR setups.

Origin and habitat
Western Atlantic, from Nova Scotia to Argentina, including the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean.

Common in large FOWLR tanks. Requires very large tank due to size and swimming habits. Will eat small fish.
