Appearance

Small, robust pufferfish with a honeycomb-like pattern of dark spots or reticulations covering a pale tan or yellowish body. The body is stocky and relatively rounded, with small pectoral fins and a blunt snout typical of toby puffers. The distinctive hexagonal spot pattern is the defining feature of this species.

Diet and feeding

Offer a varied diet of small crustaceans (brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, copepods), small gastropods, and prepared meaty foods. Also graze on algae films and small invertebrates in the tank. Feed 2-3 times daily in smaller portions.

Difficulty and care for the Honeycomb Toby

Moderately difficult. Honeycomb tobies require stable water conditions, varied live and frozen foods, and careful tankmate selection. They can nip at invertebrates and small fish, and are prone to ich if stressed.
