Appearance

The Flying Gurnard has a flattened body with large, fan-like pectoral fins edged in bright blue or turquoise and spotted with darker markings. It displays reddish-brown coloration on its head and body with distinctive wing-like pectoral fins that extend when the fish is startled or foraging.

Diet and feeding

Small fish, crustaceans, worms, frozen mysis, brine shrimp, and other meaty foods. Bottom-dwelling predator.
