Appearance
A stocky, compressed-bodied soldierfish with bright red coloration on the body and fins, distinctive black or dark-tipped pectoral fins (hence the common name), and a prominent lateral line. Large eyes reflect its nocturnal feeding behavior.
Diet and feeding
Feed small meaty foods including mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped fish flesh. Since soldierfishes are nocturnal hunters, offer food in dimly lit conditions or at dusk to encourage natural feeding behavior. Feed 1–2 times daily.
