Diet and feeding

Omnivorous scavengers feeding on detritus, algae, and leftover food. Supplement with quality flaked foods and occasional blanched vegetables.

Origin and habitat

Indo-Pacific region, including the Red Sea, East Africa, and extending to the Indo-Malaysian seas and the Great Barrier Reef.

• Minimum 20 gallon tank with plenty of rubble and hiding spaces for shell exchanges • Maintain temperature range 72–78°F and salinity 1.023–1.025 • Provide multiple empty shells of varying sizes (turbos, nerites, cerith) for growth • Scavenges detritus and uneaten food; feeds on microalgae, biofilm, and occasional meaty foods • Relatively peaceful but may fight with other hermit crabs if shells are limited
