Quick facts
Diet and feeding
Fromia monilis are detritovores and microphagous grazers. They feed on diatoms, biofilm, and organic detritus. Occasional supplementation with quality pellet food may be needed in systems lacking sufficient natural food sources.
Origin and habitat
Indo-Pacific region, including the Red Sea, East Africa, and extending to Hawaii and the Great Barrier Reef.
Keeper notes
• Minimum 55 gallon tank • Nocturnal grazer; provide multiple small feedings of frozen foods (mysis shrimp, finely chopped meaty foods) • Maintain temperature 72–78°F and salinity 1.023–1.025 • Requires stable, established systems with plenty of substrate and rockwork for grazing • Sensitive to water quality changes and predation; avoid aggressive tankmates
