Appearance

The Ocean Triggerfish is a moderately large, robust triggerfish with an overall grayish-brown coloration that may display darker patches and barring. It has a compressed, stocky body with a prominent dorsal spine and a characteristic triggerfish profile. The head is somewhat blunt with a terminal mouth, and the body lacks significant patterning though it may show subtle mottling.

Diet and feeding

Feed a varied carnivorous diet including meaty foods such as chopped squid, shrimp, clams, and quality marine flake or pellet formulations designed for carnivorous fish. Offer food 1–2 times daily in amounts they will consume within a few minutes.

Difficulty and care for the Ocean Triggerfish

The Ocean Triggerfish is a challenging species suited only to experienced aquarists. It is highly aggressive, territorial, and will attack tankmates, corals, and invertebrates; it also demands excellent water quality and a very large, well-designed tank.
