Fish in the family Syngnathidae. Expert care. Reef Safe with Caution.
Quick facts
Appearance
Fisher's Seahorse is a small, delicate seahorse with a pale coloration ranging from cream to pale yellow or grayish-white. It has a slender, upright posture with a curled prehensile tail, a tubular snout for feeding, and a distinctive coronet crown on its head. The body is covered with bony rings and lacks the elaborate coronet ornaments of some other species.
Diet and feeding
Feed primarily on live copepods and small mysid shrimp. Supplemental foods such as frozen mysis may be accepted over time, but most specimens require abundant live prey. Feeding 2–3 times daily in small portions is essential due to their slow digestion and need for constant foraging.
Difficulty and care for the Fisher's Seahorse
Advanced - Requires experienced care due to sensitive nature specific habitat needs or complex dietary requirements. Best for expert aquarists.
Common health issues
Gas bubble disease, starvation from inadequate live prey, injury to prehensile tail, bacterial and parasitic infections from poor water quality
Origin and habitat
Eastern Australia, specifically around the southern coasts including Tasmania and New South Wales, in temperate seagrass beds and rocky areas.
