Appearance

The Blotchfin Dragonet is a small, elongated fish with a somewhat flattened body and large pectoral fins. It displays mottled brown, tan, and cream coloration with distinctive darker blotches and markings, particularly on the fins. The head is relatively large with small eyes positioned dorsally, and it features the characteristic venomous spines on the gill covers typical of Callionymidae.

Diet and feeding

Dragonets are specialist feeders on small benthic crustaceans, copepods, and amphipods. In captivity, offer frozen mysis shrimp, copepod-based foods, and live copepod cultures when available. Feeding 2–3 times daily in small portions is recommended.
