Appearance

The Blackbar Hogfish features a brilliant red body with distinctive black vertical bars on the head and gill covers, plus a black stripe along the dorsal fin. Adults display a robust, laterally compressed body typical of wrasses (family Labridae).

Diet and feeding

Feed a varied diet of quality meaty foods including mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, chopped marine fish, and small crustaceans. These wrasses are active hunters and should be fed 2–3 times daily in captivity.
