Fish in the family Blenniidae. Moderate care. Reef Safe.
Quick facts
Appearance
A small blenny with a slender, elongated body. Coloration varies from tan to reddish-brown with darker markings and bands along the body. The head bears small cirri (whisker-like filaments) above the eyes and nostrils, and the dorsal fin is continuous, characteristic of the Blenniidae family.
Diet and feeding
In the aquarium, offer a varied diet of small foods including high-quality flake food, frozen mysis shrimp, copepods, and small amounts of macroalgae. Feed small portions 2–3 times daily, as blennies have high metabolic rates.
Difficulty and care for the Red Sea Mimic Blenny
Moderate difficulty. Requires a well-established reef aquarium with stable water conditions, plenty of hiding places, and varied live or frozen foods. More sensitive to poor water quality than hardier blennies.
Common health issues
Ich (white spot disease), parasitic infections, starvation if inadequate small-food availability, bloating if fed overly large food items
Origin and habitat
Red Sea and adjacent waters of the Indian Ocean. Endemic or near-endemic to Red Sea coral reef habitats.
