Appearance

Small, stocky cichlid with a golden-to-violet body, blue iridescent speckling, red eye, black vertical bar through the eye, and a black blotch on the flank. Color morphs include gold, electric blue, and shortened 'balloon' bodies.

Keeper notes

Peaceful dwarf cichlid; mildly territorial only around a spawning site. A bonded pair may defend a small area but rarely harms tankmates. May pick at very small shrimp/shrimplets though usually tolerant of adult shrimp. Sensitive to stress from aggressive or boisterous tankmates.
