Appearance

Flat-backed surface dweller with large upward-facing eyes, a wide upturned mouth, and enormous wing-like pectoral fins plus trailing pelvic-fin filaments that resemble butterfly wings.

A surface ambush predator that eats insects, small fish, and shrimp at the waterline; may nip the fins of slow tankmates below and is intolerant of conspecifics. Keep with mid-and-bottom dwellers too large to eat. An extreme jumper that can glide out of open tanks.
